Liu Postdoctoral Fellowships

There are presently two Postdoctoral Fellows in the Institute, the Simons Postdoctoral Fellow and the Global Issues Postdoctoral Fellow. For information on the scholars in these positions, please visit their profiles. We are also recruiting four researchers to take up Postdoctoral Fellowship positions beginning this fall (2010). Please note however that we are no longer accepting applications for these positions.

Bottom Billion Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A billion people currently live on less than a dollar a day, the vast majority of them in Africa and South Asia.  The Bottom Billion researcher will be focussed on development among the world’s poorest.  The researcher can be a social or natural scientist working on one of three themes: Development and Environment; Development and Health; and Development and Conflict; and can be focussed on developing countries, or from a developing country.

Energy, Climate and Development Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The fellow's expertise will fall within the theme of Energy, Climate Change and Development.  Possible areas of interest include urban air quality, rural energy, climate change policy, climate change impacts and adaptation, mitigation and technology diffusion, and energy, environment and human health. The scholar will also be involved in developing scientific and policy related course materials related to global environmental change, aimed at capacity building in the public and private sectors.

Human Security Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Institute regards human security in a multi-dimensional way; we support research in the themes of social justice, sustainability and security (e.g. armed conflict), toward the goal of protecting individuals. The Human Security postdoctoral fellow can be a social or natural scientist with research that supports one of these themes in human security. Areas of interest include but are not limited to peace and conflict, environment and climate, food and basic human needs.

Security and Defence Forum Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Funded through the Security and Defence Forum Program, the SDF researcher will to contribute to the SDF Forum’s ongoing agenda of activities and research, particularly focusing on Canadian security and foreign policy and on Canada’s efforts to redefine and realize a role in global and regional security environments. The fellow’s expertise and interests can fall within these areas, or focus on other questions concerning security, conflict, peace management and multilateral security cooperation.
